Gingerbread Mania!

Thought the holidays were over, did you? Well not yet! Last night I got together with my sisters and cousins to create the ultimate gingerbread house. Yes we were inspired to do so by the gingerbread house contest, but mostly it was a chance to hang out and do something fun.

In order to make a gingerbread house you need lots of supplies including but not limited to: powdered sugar, gumdrops, candy canes, licorice, m&m’s, assorted sprinkles, and of course gingerbread.

We started out by thinking of winter themes. “Ice fishing, hockey, skiing, sledding, DOG sledding, SKIJORING!” (being pulled on ski’s by dogs) and then decided that Santa’s workshop in the North Pole would be a good structure and provide some color. Quickly, we sketched out our plan onto a giant piece of cardboard and then wasted no time breaking into teams and getting to work.

Carrie tackled the gingerbread,

I whipped up 4 lbs of powdered sugar and a dozen egg whites into gloopy, sticky icing and Heather set to work making an m&m path while Jeannie and Katie were on workshop construction duty.

Several hours and one viewing of Elf (in the background) later we have this.

It may not be the Taj Mahal, but hey, there’s always next year! For closeups of our cute creations check out our craftster contest entry here.
